Job Overview: The volunteer role focuses on supporting the implementation of disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, and civil society accountability interventions under the ACTIVE project in Rautahat District, Nepal. The volunteer will collaborate with local governments, civil society groups (CSGs), youth-led organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance disaster preparedness, climate adaptation, and shock-responsive social protection mechanisms. The role is particularly aimed at strengthening the resilience of marginalized communities, including women, Dalits, Indigenous groups, and persons with disabilities. The volunteer will be instrumental in facilitating community engagement and ensuring that the needs of these vulnerable groups are prioritized in disaster risk management and climate resilience initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this volunteer role include:
Supporting local governments in the development and implementation of disaster risk reduction strategies.
Collaborating with civil society groups to promote climate resilience initiatives.
Engaging with community stakeholders to enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
Facilitating training sessions and workshops for local organizations on climate adaptation and resilience building.
Assisting in the development of shock-responsive social protection programs tailored to the needs of marginalized communities.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented interventions and providing feedback for improvement.
Building sustainable relationships with local partners and stakeholders to ensure the longevity of project impacts.
Promoting awareness of disaster risk reduction and climate resilience among community members.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:

Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in community engagement, project management, or volunteer work, particularly in the context of disaster risk reduction or climate resilience. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and for reporting purposes. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nepal, such as Nepali or Maithili, is considered an asset and will facilitate better engagement with community members.
Additional Notes: This volunteer position is full-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate community needs. VSO provides a monthly allowance in local currency to cover reasonable living expenses during the placement, although it may not be sufficient to send money home. Accommodation will be basic, reflecting the conditions of the communities served.
