Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting supplies and logisticscoordination and information management in response to the impacts of Tropical Cyclone MALA in the Solomon Islands, particularly in the Western and Choiseul Provinces. The position involves working closely with government officials, local partners, and humanitarian organizations to ensure the effective distribution of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) supplies and dignity kits. The volunteer will be responsible for tracking shipments, developing distribution plans, and managing data collection and reporting to ensure that health facilities and partners receive the necessary supplies in a timely manner. This role is vital for maintaining continuity of essential health services in the affected areas and requires a proactive approach to logistics and information management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support provincial-level logistics and shipment clearance by coordinating with the Solomon Islands program specialist, government officials, and local partners to ensure the smooth flow of humanitarian supplies.
Track incoming and outgoing shipments of SRH and dignity kit supplies, ensuring that all logistics are documented accurately.
Assist in developing provincial-level distribution plans for emergency supplies, ensuring that the needs of the affected populations are met.
Coordinate with provincial health teams in Western and Choiseul for last-mile delivery of supplies, ensuring that they reach the intended beneficiaries.
Collect, verify, and compile field data from partners and provincial teams to maintain accurate records of distribution activities.
Assist in collecting and sharing information for the 5W tracking matrix to monitor the distribution of supplies.
Support the preparation of weekly logistics and response updates for UNFPA and partners, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of the current situation and needs.
Ensure accurate documentation of distribution activities and beneficiary reach to facilitate reporting and accountability.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency in logistics coordination and information management is essential. The candidate should also have a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in emergency settings. Familiarity with humanitarian response frameworks and experience in working with government and non-governmental organizations would be advantageous. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable working in basic living conditions and be prepared for travel to remote areas as needed.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, public health, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications in logistics or humanitarian response will be given priority. Experience: Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in logistics coordination, supply chain management, or information management, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
