Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa by contributing to its annual workplan and strategic objectives. This position emphasizes enhancing organizational effectiveness in communications and advocacy. The volunteer will be responsible for creating impactful visual assets that highlight the office's work, working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO). This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in communications within a UN agency, while also developing collaboration skills across various pillars of the organization. The selected candidate will design assets for social media, websites, and publications, ensuring cohesive messaging across all platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be tasked with producing design and layout for all visual communication assets, which includes reports, social media messaging, brochures, newsletters, explainers, and factsheets that showcase the achievements of the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA). Specific duties include: - Creating draft designs based on project requirements and discussing them with the communications team; - Developing final designs according to agreed specifications; - Assisting in the creation of social media messaging in collaboration with the PIO and other OHCHR staff; - Ensuring that all designs adhere to the OHCHR design style guide, which will be provided to the volunteer; - Engaging with the communications teams at OHCHR to understand how graphic design can enhance the visibility of successful interventions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong skills in video editing, animation, and graphic design. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills are also required to effectively convey ideas and concepts.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, communications, multimedia arts, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or training that demonstrates their capabilities in design and visual communication.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not mandatory. However, candidates should have a portfolio showcasing their design work, which reflects their skills and creativity in video editing, animation, and graphic design.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and design work will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the Southern African region, would be considered an asset but is not required.
