Job Overview: The Senior Portfolio Manager position is part of the Pension Investments (PENIN) team within the World Bank Group's Treasury. This role is focused on managing the Absolute Returns portfolio, which consists of market-neutral liquid hedge funds designed to deliver returns with limited correlation to traditional risk factors, limited volatility, and strong downside protection. The Senior Portfolio Manager will co-lead the portfolio construction process, participate in investment due diligence, and monitor the performance and risk of various funds within the portfolio. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying new investment opportunities and engaging with external hedge fund managers, as well as presenting findings and recommendations to the Investment Committee. The role is critical in ensuring that the Absolute Returns portfolio meets its performance targets and aligns with the overall investment strategy of the World Bank Group.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the portfolio construction process and enhancements to the portfolio by formulating new investment ideas and researching new managers. Enhance quantitative and qualitative analysis to support investment decisions.
Oversee day-to-day operations of the portfolio, ensuring alignment with market-neutral principles and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Monitor performance and risk characteristics of funds in the Absolute Returns portfolio, keeping abreast of market trends and developments.
Manage the due diligence process for external managers, understanding the legal and operational risks involved.
Engage with senior management and participate in the Investment Committee decision-making process, preparing and presenting investment recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Masters preferred) in a relevant field such as finance, business, or economics. Professional certifications like CFA or CAIA are advantageous. A minimum of 10 years of investment experience, particularly in Absolute Returns strategies, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, experience in leading investment due diligence, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. Proven leadership experience and the ability to foster high-performing teams are essential.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field is required. Additional professional certifications such as CFA or CAIA are considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of investment work experience, specifically in Absolute Returns strategies. Candidates should have a proven track record in quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as experience leading due diligence processes across multiple hedge fund strategies. Experience in engaging with investment committees and managing relationships with external hedge fund managers is also necessary.
