Job Overview:
The primary objective of the Paramedic role is to provide essential on-site medical support during humanitarian demining operations. This position is critical in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals involved in demining activities. The Paramedic will be responsible for delivering first aid to victims of accidents, stabilizing their condition, and overseeing their care during the medical evacuation process. The role requires a proactive approach to assess local medical facilities before demining operations commence, allowing for the development of effective casualty evacuation plans. The Paramedic will also maintain updated contact information for healthcare facilities within the operational area and ensure that serious injury kits are complete and compliant with DRC's standard operating procedures. Additionally, the Paramedic will conduct regular basic life support training for colleagues and support third-party training initiatives in collaboration with DRC Global Medic. This position demands a high level of responsibility and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Paramedic will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Providing immediate medical assistance and first aid to victims of accidents during demining operations.
  • Stabilizing the condition of injured individuals on-site and facilitating their transport to medical facilities.
  • Conducting assessments of local medical facilities to inform casualty evacuation strategies.
  • Maintaining accurate and current contact information for healthcare providers in the area of operation.
  • Ensuring the availability and integrity of serious injury kits in accordance with DRC protocols.
  • Delivering regular basic life support training sessions for team members based on DRC's standardized training programs.
  • Collaborating with DRC Global Medic to support formal training initiatives for paramedics.
  • Assisting colleagues with routine tasks related to deployment in mobile teams.
  • Upholding DRC's core values and competencies in all aspects of the role.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Paramedic position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A university degree from a recognized medical institution, specifically a diploma qualifying as a paramedic or doctor.
  • A minimum of three years of practical experience in a medical setting, preferably in an ambulance crew or as a military combat medic.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, with a good understanding of written and spoken English being desirable.
  • Experience in trauma management, particularly in accident-related injuries, is highly valued.
  • Previous experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in a paramedic capacity is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a university degree from a state medical institution, specifically a diploma that qualifies them as a paramedic or doctor. This educational background is essential to ensure that the individual possesses the necessary medical knowledge and skills to perform effectively in emergency situations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of practical experience in the medical field. This experience should ideally include work in an ambulance crew or as a military combat medic, providing the candidate with the necessary skills to handle emergency medical situations effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is a mandatory requirement for this position. Additionally, a good understanding of written and spoken English is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international colleagues and enhance the effectiveness of training and operational activities.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is initially set for a duration of three months, with a probation period included. There is a possibility of extension based on performance and available funding. The designated duty station for this role is Sumy, Ukraine, with a start date anticipated for July 1st, 202
