Job Overview: The UNV National Specialist position is part of UNICEF’s Child Protection System Strengthening (CPSS) Programme, which aims to advance human rights and child rights agendas. The role involves supporting the implementation of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) recommendations and enhancing partnerships under an EU-funded project. The specialist will engage with various stakeholders, including government bodies and civil society organizations, to ensure effective communication and coordination in child protection efforts. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring commitments related to child protection systems reform and child rights, contributing to the overall mission of UNICEF in Egypt.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNV National Specialist will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
Supporting coordination and follow-up on the implementation of CRC recommendations and international human rights commitments relevant to children.
Maintaining effective communication with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and development partners.
Preparing technical briefs, meeting minutes, concept notes, reports, and advocacy materials related to child protection and human rights.
Organizing and following up on consultations, workshops, training sessions, and inter-agency meetings.
Assisting in the implementation of activities under the EU project and other related initiatives.
Tracking progress against annual work plans, outputs, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
Documenting good practices, lessons learned, and program achievements.
Conducting background research and compiling relevant legal, policy, and program information related to child rights and child protection systems strengthening.
Performing any other related tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate strong competencies in accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A strong understanding of child rights and protection systems is essential, along with the ability to engage effectively with government and civil society partners.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, international relations, human rights, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection or human rights will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the legal frameworks and policies related to child rights and protection.
Experience: The position requires prior experience in child protection, human rights, or a related field. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international development partners. Experience in project management, coordination, and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its mechanisms for child rights is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the role. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position based in Cairo, Egypt, which is classified as a family duty station. The role offers a Volunteer Living Allowance of approximately USD 2,017.51 per month, along with entry and exit lump-sum payments. Medical and life insurance coverage is provided, along with access to training resources through the UNV E-Campus. The position is full-time, and candidates should be prepared for a dynamic work environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.
