Job Overview: The EBRD is seeking a motivated intern to join its team, focusing on policy agenda development and delivery in Romania and Bulgaria. The intern will support the management of the Green Innovation Programme (H2020) and work alongside experienced professionals to contribute to impactful green and climate initiatives across Europe. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy preparation, project portfolio management, and stakeholder engagement within an international finance and development environment. The intern will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the EBRD, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, sustainable development, and climate policy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will assist with policy research and background analysis on topics such as renewable energy sources (RES), hydrogen, biogas/bio methane, EV battery recycling, circular economy, transport decarbonisation/e-mobility, public-private partnerships (PPPs), and affordable housing. Under the supervision of senior team members, the intern will support the coordination and documentation of TSI projects and other donor-funded programmes, contribute to grant application processes, and compile information for policy-related work. The intern will help maintain records of communications with various ministries in Romania and Bulgaria, focusing on tracking policy activities and providing necessary support. Additionally, the intern will assist in organizing and monitoring project files, tracking progress and achievements for the Green Innovation programme Horizon 2020, and support the preparation and delivery of donor reports and presentations. The intern will also help create communication and visibility materials, update project information online, and coordinate outreach with guidance from senior team members. Other responsibilities include scheduling meetings, maintaining contact records, researching potential partners, and supporting marketing activities. The intern will collect and organize market sector data in member states to identify innovation opportunities and support the development of innovation plans for companies, including procurement paperwork and liaison with consultants. Furthermore, the intern will gather and summarize information on EU climate and environmental legislation and prepare briefing notes on other innovation facilities. The intern will maintain and update stakeholder lists, help build connections with innovation and low-carbon networks, and support relationship-building activities. Attendance at selected meetings and events on climate and environmental research will also be part of the role.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently pursuing or have recently completed studies in public policy, environmental science, economics, or related disciplines. A strong interest in public policy, climate policy, and sustainable development is essential. The ideal candidate should possess excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, along with a proactive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple tasks effectively. Fluency in both Romanian and English is mandatory, as these languages are crucial for effective communication within the role.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to have a background in public policy, environmental science, economics, or related fields. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of climate policy and sustainable development, as well as for conducting effective policy research and analysis.
Experience: The intern position is designed for individuals who are either currently pursuing their studies or have recently completed their education. Therefore, prior professional experience is not strictly required, but a strong interest in the relevant fields and a willingness to learn and contribute to the organization's goals are essential.
Languages: Fluency in Romanian and English is mandatory for this position. These language skills are necessary for effective communication with stakeholders, conducting research, and preparing reports. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
