Job Overview: The SRH Analyst position is a national consultancy role based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, aimed at supporting the coordination of UNFPA's humanitarian response activities related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV). The consultant will work closely with the provincial Ministry of Health's RMNCAH unit and the Ministry of Women, Children, Youth and Family Affairs. This role is critical in the aftermath of the Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila, which has severely disrupted health services and increased the risks of GBV in affected provinces. The consultant will be part of a multi-disciplinary humanitarian team, reporting to the UNFPA Programme Specialist and the Humanitarian Specialist based in Fiji. The position requires travel within the Solomon Islands to coordinate and implement UNFPA's response activities effectively, ensuring that the needs of vulnerable populations are met during this humanitarian crisis.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Coordinating UNFPA's advocacy efforts on critical SRHR and GBV issues within humanitarian responses in Western and Choiseul Provinces.
Attending Health and Protection meetings in the provinces to advocate for SRH and GBV issues.
Ensuring timely implementation of UNFPA response activities by coordinating with various stakeholders.
Building partnerships with local government units, NGOs, civil society, inter-faith groups, and development partners to enhance the impact of UNFPA's humanitarian response.
Identifying and coordinating resource mobilization initiatives to diversify UNFPA's investments in SRHR.
Supporting visibility of activities by drafting content for communication purposes.
Documenting and disseminating program delivery and advocacy activities for multimedia coverage.
Gathering and compiling information for monitoring and reporting, including program and financial reports, and developing M&E tools as needed.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Programme Specialist.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a healthcare qualification such as nursing, midwifery, or medicine, with a strong preference for midwifery. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in health sciences (nursing, midwifery, medicine, or other health sciences), public health, or health promotion is required. A Master's degree in public health, reproductive health, gender, epidemiology, social development, or related fields is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional experience, preferably in program/project management within the public or private sector, particularly in development. Knowledge and practical experience in sexual and reproductive health in a leadership capacity are essential, along with previous experience in humanitarian response and knowledge management.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a healthcare qualification such as nursing, midwifery, or medicine, with a strong preference for candidates holding a midwifery qualification. A Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, or health promotion is mandatory, while a Master's degree in relevant fields such as public health, reproductive health, gender, or social sciences is preferred. Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional experience, ideally in program or project management within the public or private sectors. Languages: Fluency in English and Pidgin is required for this position. Additional Notes: The position is a consultancy role based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, with travel required to various provinces as needed.
