Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director will serve as Plan International's lead representative in Ghana, overseeing the organization's presence and driving its program and influencing work. This role requires a strong commitment to gender equality and the ability to represent Plan International at high levels of government, civil society, and media. The Country Director will be responsible for leading a high-performing team, ensuring accountability for meeting targets, and aligning operations with the global strategy. The position involves advocating for positive change for girls, ensuring the country operating model is effective, and embedding organizational values in all activities. The Country Director will also be expected to lead efforts in emergency response and development needs for marginalized children, particularly girls.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Country Director will lead the Ghana team in compliance with local laws and Plan International policies, implement the Country Strategy, and manage the Annual Planning and Budgeting process. Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality program delivery with the involvement of children and young people, managing a grant portfolio, and ensuring readiness for emergencies. The Country Director will represent Plan International to authorities and key decision-makers, maintain compliance with laws, and manage risks related to safeguarding, safety, and reputation. The role also involves developing and implementing a Resource Mobilization strategy, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders, and promoting the organization's values and policies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience. They should have significant leadership experience in an international environment, particularly in development or humanitarian contexts. A strong understanding of child rights and gender equality issues, as well as knowledge of the geopolitical factors affecting child poverty in Ghana, is essential. Proven skills in team development, financial management, and compliance with donor requirements are also required.
Educational Background: A relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field is required. Equivalent experience may also be considered. Candidates should have a strong understanding of child rights and gender equality issues, as well as knowledge of the historical and socio-political context of Ghana.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant leadership experience is required, with a proven track record in development and humanitarian action. Candidates should have experience in managing teams, financial compliance, and understanding the complexities of programming in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of local languages may be advantageous but is not explicitly required.
