Job Overview:
The Immunization Officer (Urban) will report to the Health Specialist and is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated urban health strategy aimed at benefiting urban poor populations. This role is crucial for supporting polio eradication efforts and contributing to the overall health and social development of Pakistan. The officer will provide technical support to the Government of Pakistan in developing a costed urban health strategy and action plans, focusing on low-performing urban communities and high-risk megacities. The position requires a proactive approach to urban immunization activities, including the implementation of an urban immunization package, real-time data collection, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for collecting baseline information using a Results-Based Management (RBM) approach, triangulating data to prioritize health interventions in urban districts and communities. Key responsibilities include planning and implementing the urban immunization package, which encompasses initiatives like the 24/7 birth dose initiative, weekend and evening outreach services, and monitoring progress towards achieving 100% coverage of zero-dose children under two years of age. The officer will coordinate with provincial EPI/PEI partners, ensure timely planning and monitoring of urban immunization services, and support the operationalization of integrated services in designated megacities. Additionally, the officer will mobilize sectors at the provincial level, strengthen intersectoral coordination, and develop micro plans for urban slums through community engagement. The role also involves establishing a real-time data collection system, organizing review meetings, and supporting supplementary immunization activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor's) in relevant fields such as medical sciences, public health, family health, or nursing. A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in service delivery within urban settings is required, including experience in integrated service delivery, data analysis, and coordination across different sectors. Experience working with a UN agency or organization is considered an asset, along with familiarity with developing country contexts and emergency situations.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in medical sciences, health, public health, family health, child development, nursing, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to urban health strategies and immunization efforts.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in service delivery in urban settings. This includes experience in integrated service delivery, coordination, and data analysis. Familiarity with the UN system and experience in developing countries or emergency contexts are advantageous.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of a local language is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
