Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director position at Plan International Mozambique is a pivotal leadership role focused on transforming power relations in favor of girls and addressing the underlying causes of inequality and vulnerability. The Country Director will oversee a diverse portfolio of development and humanitarian programs valued at approximately €9 million annually, with aspirations for significant growth. This role involves leading a team of around 75 staff across multiple field offices and maintaining strong partnerships with various stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Country Director, the individual will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Setting the strategic direction for Plan International Mozambique and providing inspiring leadership to a high-performing senior management team.
  • Driving business development initiatives, diversifying funding sources, and fostering strong relationships with donors.
  • Representing Plan International at high-level meetings with government officials, donors, civil society organizations, media, and partners.
  • Ensuring robust financial management, governance, risk management, and operational excellence in a complex operating environment.
  • Championing gender equality, safeguarding, and inclusion, integrating these principles into all aspects of programming and organizational culture.
  • Leading the delivery of impactful programs that align with the organization's mission and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Country Director position must possess a strong background in business development, program leadership, and influencing, particularly in complex international or fragile contexts. They should demonstrate a deep commitment to gender equality and girls' rights, with the ability to lead transformational change. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading large, diverse teams and organizations, along with strong strategic, financial, and risk management capabilities. They must also have credibility and confidence in acting as an external representative and advocate for the organization, with experience in partnerships with governments, NGOs, and international actors.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Country Director role includes a relevant degree in international development, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in areas related to gender equality, humanitarian response, or organizational leadership would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles of child rights and gender equality, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in leadership roles within international development or humanitarian organizations, particularly in contexts that are complex or fragile. Candidates should have a track record of successfully managing large teams and programs, as well as experience in business development and securing funding from diverse sources. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in Mozambique or similar contexts will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Additionally, reasonable communication skills in Portuguese are necessary to effectively engage with local stakeholders and partners. Proficiency in other languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This role is a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The Country Director will report to the Director of Sub Region, East and Southern Africa.
