Job Overview:
The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Finance Coordinator position is integral to the San Diego Finance team, primarily responsible for managing essential accounting functions related to accounts payable and accounts receivable. This role involves tracking the budget versus actual expenditures for the Statewide Family Support Coordinator (SFSC) grant funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). The Finance Coordinator will ensure compliance with IRC’s accounting policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and donor requirements. The position requires a proactive approach to financial activities, including reviewing and posting invoice journals, resolving discrepancies, and preparing grant expenditure reports. The Finance Coordinator will also build a comprehensive understanding of donor policies and serve as a backup to the Finance Manager for key daily duties, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Coordinator will undertake a variety of duties, including:
  • Ensuring compliance with IRC’s accounting policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements.
  • Supporting daily financial activities for the SFSC project, which includes reviewing and posting invoice journals, resolving discrepancies, and reporting to supervisors as necessary.
  • Reviewing subgrantee invoices and supporting documents for accuracy and cost eligibility, processing payments accordingly.
  • Verifying funder reimbursements, reconciling payments with invoices, and accurately recording transactions in the accounting system.
  • Preparing grant expenditure reports for managerial review and submission, investigating variances, and reporting findings to supervisors.
  • Building and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of donor policies and sharing this knowledge with the programs team.
  • Serving as a backup to the Finance Manager for key day-to-day duties.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess formal accounting or bookkeeping training and/or coursework, with a strong preference for a 4-year degree in a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of professional work experience with accounting and bookkeeping procedures and standards is required. A strong commitment to the IRC mission and adherence to its core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality is essential. Candidates should demonstrate solid computer-based accounting skills, proficiency in general office software programs, and a proven ability to work effectively as a team member in a cross-cultural environment. The ideal candidate should have formal training in accounting or bookkeeping, with a strong preference for a bachelor's degree in a related field. This educational background will provide the foundational knowledge necessary for the financial responsibilities associated with the position.

Experience:
The Finance Coordinator role requires at least 3 years of professional experience in accounting and bookkeeping. This experience should encompass a thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as familiarity with financial reporting and compliance requirements. Languages:
