Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will support the BIOFIN Country Team under the supervision of the Nature, Climate and Resilience Portfolio Lead. This role involves a variety of administrative and communication tasks aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the BIOFIN initiative, which focuses on biodiversity financing. The volunteer will be responsible for organizing program administration activities, maintaining records of the program budget, and facilitating communication and reporting. The position requires a proactive approach to managing meetings, workshops, and project documentation, as well as ensuring compliance with UNDP regulations. The volunteer will also play a key role in disseminating project-related information through various media channels, contributing to the overall visibility and impact of the BIOFIN initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize program administration activities: Coordinate and manage bookings for meetings, conferences, and workshops; arrange travel and catering; develop agendas and prepare documents; take notes and prepare minutes; arrange project site visits for monitoring and evaluation.
Maintain records of the program budget: Process invoices, track expenditures, assist with financial reporting, ensure compliance with UNDP rules, and update project activities on the UN QUANTUM system.
Communication and Reporting: Collect, edit, and present project information; update project-related websites and social media; monitor communication strategies of project partners; ensure alignment with the Project Communication Strategy.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management tools are essential. Experience in administrative support, financial tracking, and communication strategies is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values of the UN and an understanding of sustainable development principles.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, environmental science, public administration, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or communication would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in administrative support, project management, or communication roles. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is preferred. Familiarity with biodiversity financing or environmental issues would be a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position with a monthly living allowance of R33,348.2
The assignment includes a one-time entry lump sum of $350, medical insurance, life cover, and annual leave. Volunteers will have access to learning platforms and will receive a one-time exit lump sum at the end of the assignment. The position is based in South Africa, where living conditions can be cosmopolitan, particularly in larger cities like Johannesburg and Pretoria. However, volunteers should remain vigilant due to higher crime rates in certain areas.
