Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) for Jordan is a pivotal leadership role that requires a strategic and innovative approach to drive impact and shape the direction of CARE's operations in the country. The CD will be responsible for transitioning the country office from a focus on humanitarian response to integrated recovery and sustainable development. This role demands a balance of strategic vision, operational discipline, and entrepreneurial thinking, as the CD will lead a diverse team and engage with various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of CARE's mission in Jordan. The CD will also be the legal representative of CARE in Jordan, ensuring compliance and operational excellence while positioning the organization as a trusted partner in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and execution of CARE Jordan’s multi-year strategy, ensuring alignment with global priorities and national development goals.
  • Drive innovation and organizational transformation to maintain agility and relevance in a changing environment.
  • Guide evidence-based decision-making processes to adapt to complex challenges.
  • Inspire and manage a diverse, high-performing team, fostering a culture of inclusion, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Build leadership capacity and strengthen talent pipelines within the organization.
  • Develop and implement ambitious fundraising strategies targeting institutional, private, and non-traditional donors.
  • Position CARE as a trusted partner with government entities, donors, and the private sector.
  • Explore innovative financing models, including partnerships and social enterprise approaches.
  • Ensure strong financial stewardship and compliance with organizational policies. 1
  • Lead risk management and safeguarding efforts to protect staff and assets. 1
  • Maintain effective systems and structures that support organizational growth. 1
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based programs that are centered on community needs. 1

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership experience in a senior management role within a complex organization, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to drive organizational transformation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of building partnerships and engaging stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and foster a culture of inclusion and collaboration.
  • Experience in resource mobilization and fundraising, with a strong network of contacts in the donor community.
  • Knowledge of financial management and compliance requirements in the non-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with risk management and safeguarding practices.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in international development, public administration, business administration, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or leadership development are advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in leadership roles within the humanitarian or development sectors is required. Experience working in Jordan or the Middle East region is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of managing complex programs and leading diverse teams.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus and can enhance communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is open to both national and international applicants, with a preference for Jordanian nationals in line with CARE's localization strategy. The role is full-time and may involve travel within Jordan and potentially to other countries. Compensation and benefits will be commensurate with experience and in line with CARE's policies.
