Job Overview: As the PR Manager based in the Seoul office, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the IRC in Korea. Reporting directly to the Senior Communications Manager for IRC Korea, you will collaborate with both global and local teams to implement effective PR strategies that generate media coverage and engage key audiences. Your responsibilities will include developing key messaging related to Korean humanitarian and development issues, as well as supporting fundraising efforts through strategic communications. You will be expected to maintain a strong understanding of current affairs in Korea, particularly those that impact the humanitarian sector, and leverage this knowledge to inform your PR strategies. The role requires a proactive approach to media relations, ensuring that the IRC is positioned as a leader in the sector and that its programming solutions are effectively communicated to the public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Generate and maintain strategic brand positioning and messaging by collaborating with global communications colleagues and the Korean digital communications manager.
Work closely with the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director of IRC Korea to align communications strategies with organizational priorities.
Actively monitor Korean media for key issues and trends, preparing relevant messaging and materials.
Develop and execute communications strategies to increase IRC's profile in Korea, acting as a key press contact and media liaison.
Secure media coverage in target Korean outlets, ensuring alignment with brand, income, and advocacy objectives.
Write, edit, and disseminate press releases, statements, op-eds, and briefings in collaboration with country staff and policy colleagues.
Prepare spokespeople and representatives for media interviews and program visits.
Build relationships with key journalists and media outlets, exploring opportunities for media partnerships.
Represent IRC externally and engage with partner organizations and other NGOs to promote IRC's mission. 1
Be flexible with working hours to respond to media inquiries and other urgent communications needs.
Required Qualifications:
Strong professional experience in communications or a related field.
Proven experience in developing and implementing media/PR strategies, particularly in advocacy and marketing.
Familiarity with the humanitarian or development aid sector, with a background in international organizations.
In-depth knowledge of the Korean media landscape and successful PR activation strategies.
Experience handling media inquiries during crises or sensitive situations.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in Korean, with the ability to produce engaging and clear content.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should possess significant professional experience in communications, ideally with a focus on PR and media relations within the humanitarian or development sectors. Experience working in international contexts and familiarity with the Korean media environment are essential.
Languages: Fluency in Korean is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken English skills also required. Additional language skills may be considered an asset.
