Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant position is based in Cox’s Bazar, where the job holder will report to the logistics officer or their designate. This role is crucial for the effective implementation of logistics and supply chain processes that support the delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries. The Logistics Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that require adherence to standard guidelines and practices. The position involves recommending actions to staff at various levels and may include allocating tasks to other support staff. The job holder will engage in activities that ensure the timely ordering and delivery of commodities, manage logistics vendor contracts, and respond to technical queries while maintaining a high standard of client service. The Logistics Assistant will also monitor inventory management processes and assist in the execution of logistics operations, ensuring that all activities align with WFP’s operational standards and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Assistant will undertake a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Supporting logistics operations and activities to facilitate the effective delivery of food assistance.
  • Ensuring timely ordering and delivery of commodities and supplies to authorized partners.
  • Managing logistics vendor contracting activities, including performance monitoring.
  • Responding to technical queries and requests for support, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Monitoring inventory management processes to track trends and maintain data integrity.
  • Processing documentation for logistics operations, including purchase orders and supplier communications.
  • Collecting and compiling data for reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Acting as a storekeeper in the absence of regular staff.
  • Monitoring warehouse conditions and ensuring efficient space planning. 1
  • Providing guidance and training to warehouse staff and partners. 1
  • Inspecting partner warehouses and advising on storage practices. 1
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to enhance logistics operations. 1
  • Acting as a focal point for stock management tools and asset management. 1
  • Performing any other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a completion of a University Degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Supply Chain, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Law, or Accounting. A certificate in a related functional area is desirable, along with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to draft reports, and experience in managing logistics operations effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a completed University Degree (bachelor's or equivalent). Preferred fields of study include Supply Chain, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Law, or Accounting. Additional certifications in supply chain management or related areas are considered advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in logistics, specifically in areas such as commodity handling, warehousing, transport contracting, and supplier management. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing logistics operations and working with various stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

This is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 12 months, based in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. The position is open to Bangladeshi Nationals, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
