Job Overview:
The Associate Banker position is integral to the EBRD's operations, contributing to all phases of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, execution, and implementation. The role requires the Associate Banker to undertake comprehensive due diligence, ensuring compliance with EBRD policies and effective post-signing implementation and monitoring. The Associate Banker will work closely with the operation or SME Finance team leader and may also engage in business development, client management, and policy dialogue. This position is particularly focused on supporting the Small Business Initiative Finance & Development Group, which aims to enhance the institution's SME business through strategic consolidation and coordination of activities in the SME sector. The Associate Banker will be involved in various tasks that support the implementation of the SBI agenda, ensuring a more integrated approach towards the SME sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Banker will be responsible for a range of duties under the guidance of the operation leader or a more senior banker. Key responsibilities include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborate as a project team member on transactions, contributing to project structuring and execution, working with partner banks, clients, and consultants. Drive the scope and quality of project due diligence, including financial, market, integrity, and EBRD policy compliance. Prepare internal project documentation such as project memoranda, financial models, and presentations.
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Implement and monitor assigned projects, ensuring compliance with project agreements and Bank procedures. Prepare monitoring reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Business Development: Assist with marketing and business development efforts as required. The Associate Banker will develop transaction expertise and may assume the role of an operation leader on standard transactions, increasing responsibilities over time.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Familiarity with FAST financial modelling principles and credit analysis skills is important. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet packages is required, along with excellent written and oral communication skills in English. A good command of the Ukrainian language is mandatory.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are also considered advantageous, as they demonstrate a commitment to the field and a higher level of expertise.

Experience:
Relevant experience in the Ukrainian financial industry is essential, ideally from an investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm that operates to international standards. Candidates should have practical experience participating in transactions throughout the full project life cycle, showcasing their ability to manage projects effectively and understand the complexities involved in financial operations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. A good command of the Ukrainian language is also required, enabling effective communication with local stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the regions in which EBRD operates.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract lasting three years, with the possibility of temporary relocation to Warsaw, Poland. EBRD may allow eligible candidates to work from Ukraine if relocation is not feasible due to personal reasons.
