Job Overview: The Project Associate role within the Resilience and Climate Change (RCC) Team is crucial for facilitating the effective implementation of projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable development in the Pacific region. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital climate action and resilience-building efforts in a region that is particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change. The Project Associate will collaborate closely with RCC project managers and the program team to oversee and implement project activities within the team's portfolio. This role involves engaging in various stages of the project implementation cycle, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and effectively, and that they align with the overarching goals of the UNDP.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Associate will be responsible for a range of tasks including: ensuring the timely and accurate development, updating, and monitoring of project activity work plans, budgets, expenditure reports, and progress reports; maintaining proactive coordination with partners, consultants, and stakeholders to follow up on deliverables and timelines; supporting the organization and coordination of project meetings, workshops, and consultations; contributing to the preparation of knowledge products such as reports and presentations on climate change and resilience issues; managing project service contracts and ensuring compliance with procedures; integrating gender and community engagement considerations across project activities; and performing any other duties as assigned to support effective project implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies is essential, along with a solid understanding of climate change issues and sustainable development practices. The ideal candidate should also exhibit adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to ethical practices and respect for diversity.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, social sciences, development studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or climate change adaptation will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in project management, preferably within the context of climate change, disaster risk management, or sustainable development. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the Pacific region's socio-economic and environmental challenges.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of Fijian or Hindi would be considered an advantage, as it may facilitate better engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role based in Fiji, with a focus on project implementation within the Resilience and Climate Change Team. The role may involve occasional travel within the region to support project activities. The contract duration and specific compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
