Job Overview: The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel, visitors, and goods. The role involves not only driving but also maintaining the operational readiness of vehicles, which includes planning routes, performing routine maintenance checks, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Driver will work under the direct supervision of the Fleet Manager and closely collaborate with the Management Service team. The overarching goal is to provide reliable transportation while adhering to WFP's standards of conduct and safety protocols. This position is essential for supporting the logistical needs of the organization and ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's responsibilities include:
Conducting safe driving practices for personnel, partners, and visitors during official missions and activities.
Adhering to traffic laws, safety protocols, and organizational guidelines regarding travel.
Preparing for trips by planning routes, checking road conditions, and ensuring vehicle readiness.
Performing daily vehicle inspections, including checking oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, and overall vehicle condition.
Maintaining accurate logs of vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
Reporting any vehicle issues, incidents, or maintenance needs promptly.
Assisting with logistical tasks such as delivering documents, transporting supplies, and supporting field missions.
Upholding WFP's Code of Conduct and ethical standards, ensuring professional representation of the organization.
Communicating effectively with supervisors regarding travel plans and any unforeseen circumstances. 1
Contributing to road risk mapping and submitting required reports on incidents and maintenance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license (category B/C as per fleet requirements) and have a minimum educational qualification of a Brevet/BEPC, with a preference for a Baccalauréat. Training in defensive driving, first aid, and safety protocols is desirable, especially if mandated by the organization. A strong understanding of traffic regulations and safety procedures is essential for this role. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and effective time management skills, along with a commitment to administrative rigor in maintaining logs and records.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes at least a Brevet/BEPC, with a preference for candidates holding a Baccalauréat. Formal training in defensive driving and first aid is highly desirable, as it enhances the candidate's ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and ensures compliance with safety standards.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a professional driver, preferably within NGOs, UN agencies, international institutions, or embassies. A proven track record of safe driving with no major incidents in the past three years is required, and references may be requested to verify this. Experience driving 4x4 vehicles and navigating challenging road conditions is advantageous, as is familiarity with convoy protocols when applicable. Additionally, experience in managing documentation related to vehicle operations, such as logbooks and maintenance reports, is beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in French (both oral and written) is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of local languages is considered an asset, and proficiency in professional English is also desirable, as it may facilitate communication in diverse environments and with international colleagues.
Additional Notes: This position is a Fixed Term contract at Grade 2, with a duration of 1 month. The role is based in Conakry, Guinea, and is full-time.
