Job Overview:
The IDB Country Office in Barbados is seeking an active undergraduate student for a paid internship opportunity under the Consultant modality. This internship is designed for university students from member countries to gain insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank. Interns will acquire valuable work experience through on-the-job learning, which will enhance their understanding of the Bank's operations and the broader context of development in the region. The internship is structured to provide general administrative support, meeting and event coordination, visitor assistance, inventory management, mail coordination, and project support, allowing interns to engage in various aspects of the Bank's functions while developing their professional skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
  • General Administrative Support: Organizing and maintaining digital records, drafting and formatting routine correspondence and emails, and assisting with the monitoring and organization of invoices.
  • Meeting and Event Support: Scheduling meetings, preparing meeting materials such as agendas, and supporting logistics for in-office events or workshops, including room bookings and catering quotations.
  • Reception and Visitor Coordination: Greeting and assisting visitors, answering and directing calls, and taking messages under supervision.
  • Supplies and Inventory: Monitoring and restocking office supplies, assisting in placing orders, and tracking deliveries.
  • Mail and Courier Coordination: Receiving, logging, and distributing incoming mail and packages, as well as preparing outgoing mail or courier shipments.
  • Support to Specific Projects: Assisting with administrative tasks for ongoing initiatives, such as wellness programs, engagement activities, and staff events.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen or legal resident of Barbados.
  • Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) should be employed at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
  • First-time Internship: Must be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or IDB Invest and should not have been a former staff member or contractor for the Bank or Corporation.
  • Documentation: Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, academic transcripts (official or unofficial), and a university letter certifying student status. Applications without the requested documentation will be disqualified.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be an active undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Management, Communications, or a related field relevant to the responsibilities of the role. It is essential that the graduation date is not prior to the last day of the internship, and students must have completed their second year of studies at the time of application.

Experience:
This internship is targeted at undergraduate students, and thus, prior professional experience is not a strict requirement. However, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and engage in various tasks related to administrative support and project coordination.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. While additional language skills are not explicitly required, they may be considered an asset in enhancing communication within the diverse environment of the IDB Group.
