Job Overview: The Regional Economist Lead/Senior Specialist position is integral to the Vice-Presidency for Countries, specifically within the Andean Group Country Department, which encompasses Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. This role involves monitoring macroeconomic developments, analyzing economic and social challenges, and proposing policy recommendations to address these issues. The successful candidate will leverage advanced economic expertise to enhance operations, disseminate applied knowledge, and maximize the impact of knowledge products. The position requires a dynamic individual with a strong professional background, technical competencies, and exceptional communication skills, who can effectively engage with country authorities and navigate the political economy dynamics of the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Economist Lead/Senior Specialist include conducting rigorous economic analysis and developing country strategies in collaboration with the Regional Economic Advisor. The role involves identifying and addressing priority economic issues, generating knowledge on key economic topics relevant to the Andean Group countries, and assessing country development challenges. The candidate will summarize strategic reports for stakeholders, act as a technical point of contact for project design, and support country economists in preparing economic inputs for corporate products. Additionally, the role requires facilitating knowledge-sharing meetings, supervising operations teams to ensure the relevance of economic research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to evaluate the impact of generated knowledge. The candidate will also be responsible for capacity building through training sessions, building partnerships with government agencies and stakeholders, and maintaining dialogue with regional governments and international organizations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree, with a PhD in Economics strongly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of senior-level experience in high-level economic roles within private or public institutions is required, with 8 years preferred. Experience as a leading economist in organizations focused on development and macroeconomic issues in Latin America and the Caribbean is essential. Proven ability to engage with high-level national authorities and convey complex technical issues is necessary, along with supervisory experience. A solid track record of publications on economic issues relevant to the Andean Region is also required, demonstrating the ability to disseminate findings effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in Economics as a minimum qualification, with a PhD being strongly preferred. This advanced education is crucial for understanding complex economic theories and applying them to real-world scenarios in the Andean region.
