Job Overview: The Senior Investment Officer position is a critical role within the Agribusiness Investment Team (AIT) in the Office of the Director General (OPSD) of the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) at ADB. The successful candidate will be stationed at the Resident Mission in Bangkok, Thailand, and will report to designated AIT International Staff and the Country Director. This role involves providing technical support throughout the investment process, which includes screening, due diligence, structuring, obtaining approvals, negotiation, implementation, and closing of direct debt financing, guarantees, equity investments, and technical assistance programs in food and agribusiness companies across ADB's developing member countries (DMCs). The Senior Investment Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that projects align with ADB's mission to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include:
Project Processing: Provide technical and coordination support in identifying, developing, and processing transactions for ADB private sector direct agribusiness investment. Conduct comprehensive financial assessments, including analysis of audited financial statements, financial modeling, credit rating for debt transactions, and valuation for equity transactions. Ensure compliance with internal guidelines and market best practices.
Transaction Origination: Assist in developing a pipeline for ADB private sector direct agribusiness investment by identifying potential debt or equity transactions with strong developmental impact and robust financial profiles. Build and maintain relationships with food and agribusiness companies, financiers, and advisors in the region.
Handover of Portfolio Projects: Lead the handover of portfolio projects from AIT to PSOD's Portfolio Management division, ensuring all documentation and knowledge associated with transactions are passed on effectively.
Strategy and Planning: Coordinate with other PSOD teams on project-related and strategy policy matters.
Knowledge Sharing: Participate in learning events and contribute to knowledge building by drafting and reviewing project and policy papers related to private sector development and operations, particularly in the agribusiness sector.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Senior Investment Officer position will possess a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree and/or qualifications as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Candidates should have at least 8 years of work experience in corporate and project lending and equity investments, specifically with exposure to the food and agribusiness sector in Asia. Additionally, at least 4 years of supervisory experience is required. A strong understanding of financial modeling, equity valuation, corporate and project finance, and core banking and investment skills is essential. Familiarity with ADB's policies and processes would be advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance. A Master's degree and/or professional qualifications such as CPA or CFA are preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of financial principles and practices relevant to the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in corporate and project lending and equity investments, with a specific focus on the food and agribusiness sector in Asia. Additionally, candidates should have at least 4 years of supervisory experience, demonstrating their ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills required for effective interaction with stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse partners and clients.
Additional Notes: This appointment is open to both internal and external applicants and is classified as a local staff position, specifically for nationals and permanent residents of Thailand.
