Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position at IRC Syria is designed for a professional who will support project-specific communications deliverables and visibility requirements. This role involves the collection and development of proactive and reactive communications elements across the program portfolio. The Communications Officer will be responsible for producing high-quality communications content that highlights the successes of IRC's projects and programs through various channels, including success stories, information sheets, and social media posts. Reporting to the Policy, Advocacy and Communications (PAC) Coordinator, the officer will collaborate closely with various teams, including Syria Programs, Grants, Partnerships, and MEAL, as well as the Middle East Regional Communications team and global content and creative teams. The primary goal of this role is to enhance the visibility of the IRC Syria country program in alignment with the strategic action plan of the country office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will manage visibility and branding requirements by collaborating with IRC teams to ensure compliance with branding and visibility guidelines across programs. This includes maintaining a calendar of donor deliverables, liaising with regional and global communications teams, and advising program colleagues on compliance matters. The officer will also participate in proposal writing for communication-related deliverables and build a comprehensive communication strategy that outlines the department's work plan. Additionally, the officer will collect and package communications content, working closely with the PAC Coordinator and program teams to produce high-quality materials such as human-interest stories, photos, blogs, and videos in both English and Arabic. The role involves organizing and archiving communications content, staying updated on project activities, and leading internal communications efforts, including producing newsletters and supporting senior management with visibility initiatives. The officer will also manage media relations, liaising with national media and journalists, and archiving media coverage related to IRC's activities in Syria.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Communications Officer position must possess a higher relevant university degree in journalism, media, communications, or a related field, along with at least three years of relevant job experience. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience is acceptable. Previous experience in a similar role within an NGO is advantageous. The ideal candidate will have excellent storytelling and writing skills in English, the ability to identify compelling stories, and proficiency in creating infographics. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Final Cut, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, is highly desirable. The candidate should also have the ability to take high-quality photos and produce and edit videos for social media use. Strong relationship-building skills, the ability to work independently, and a high level of proficiency in managing complex tasks are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Communications Officer position includes a higher relevant university degree in journalism, media, communications, or a related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and substantial relevant experience may also be considered. A strong foundation in communication principles and practices is crucial for success in this role.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of relevant experience in communications, media, or a related field. Experience working in an NGO in a similar role is considered a plus. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of producing high-quality communications materials and managing visibility and branding requirements effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic, both spoken and written, is essential for this position. Candidates must possess strong writing skills in both languages, as the role involves creating content for diverse audiences. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
