Job Overview:
The Education Associate position is crucial for supporting the implementation of the Refugee Education 2030 strategy, which aligns with the Global Compact on Refugees. This role involves working closely with various stakeholders to enhance the quality and inclusiveness of education systems for refugee and host community children and youth. The Education Associate will be responsible for assessing educational contexts, developing implementation plans, and monitoring the impact of education programs. The incumbent will collaborate with in-country education partners to improve access to both formal and non-formal education, ensuring that the unique needs of refugees, including special needs and gender considerations, are addressed. The role also requires fostering inter-sectoral linkages with other sectors such as child protection and health, and preparing documentation related to education projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Education Associate will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing regular reports on educational activities, conducting assessments of community schools, identifying individuals with special educational needs, supporting data collection and analysis for education management, ensuring accurate tracking of refugee children's educational achievements, and promoting compliance with the Age, Gender and Diversity policy. The incumbent will liaise with external partners, participate in local working groups, and assist in planning and coordinating UNHCR's education role. Additional responsibilities include training UNHCR staff and partners, developing tools for education support, monitoring existing education programs, and representing UNHCR in education-related matters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field. Essential qualifications include demonstrated work experience in education programs, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts, and strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and coordination. The ability to work with minimal supervision is also required. Desirable qualifications include experience in refugee education programs, knowledge of UNHCR policies, and experience in educational research or administration.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. Candidates with a High School Diploma must have at least three years of relevant experience, while those with a Bachelor’s degree or higher need a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or two years with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Essential experience includes demonstrated work in education program implementation and coordination, particularly in humanitarian settings. Experience working with government entities, especially the Ministry of Education, is also crucial. Desirable experience includes working with refugee education programs and familiarity with UNHCR standards.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For national professional jobs, knowledge of the local language is also required. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
