Job Overview: The Social Worker position at UNRWA involves conducting comprehensive social intervention assessments for individuals and families identified as needing assistance. The incumbent will develop individualized care plans using a strengths-based approach and provide social support, including psycho-social counseling, based on these plans. The role requires identifying the need for referrals to other UNRWA services or external agencies and facilitating these referrals while ensuring proper follow-up. Documentation of all case work must be completed promptly and accurately, adhering to social work principles and maintaining records in relevant databases. The Social Worker will also facilitate community-based initiatives targeting vulnerable groups such as women, children, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Building and maintaining good working relationships with various partners and stakeholders is essential to enhance refugees' access to quality services. The position requires collaboration with the Area Social Work Supervisor and other relevant officers, ensuring that the social intervention objectives align with the overall mission of UNRWA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive social intervention assessments for individuals and families in need and develop tailored care plans.
Provide social support and psycho-social counseling based on intervention care plans at household or facility levels.
Identify the need for referrals to other UNRWA services or external agencies and facilitate these referrals, ensuring follow-up as part of the care plan.
Document all case work in accordance with social work principles and maintain accurate records using relevant databases.
Facilitate community-based initiatives and activities that support vulnerable groups and complement ongoing case work objectives.
Maintain good working relations with partners and stakeholders to improve access to quality services for refugees.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in social work, sociology, psychology, guidance and counseling, or a related discipline. Additionally, applicants should have at least three years of experience providing social work, psycho-social support, or counseling in developmental or humanitarian programs within governmental, non-governmental, or NGO organizations. Experience in community engagement and working with vulnerable populations is highly desirable. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of UNRWA, including integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
Educational Background: A university degree in social work, sociology, psychology, guidance and counseling, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the incumbent has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support individuals and families in need of social intervention.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in providing social work, psycho-social support, or counseling within developmental or humanitarian programs. This experience should be gained in governmental, non-governmental, or NGO organizations. Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also recognized as a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, but proficiency in French is not mandatory for this role. Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Limited Duration Contract (LDC) for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and ongoing need. The incumbent must be willing to travel within the field and may be required to drive an Agency vehicle. The monthly basic salary for this position is JOD 781.40, with additional benefits including compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave (pro-rated for contracts shorter than one year), and family allowances if applicable. Additional benefits include two days of sick leave for each completed month of service, maternity leave upon meeting eligibility requirements, and two weeks of paternity leave under similar conditions. The vacancy is open to both internal and external candidates, but only those residing in the West Bank or Jerusalem and authorized to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible.
