Job Overview: The Programme Support and Coordination Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting UNESCO's projects and activities in the fields of Natural Sciences. This position involves providing technical support, operational and administrative assistance, and coordination with national counterparts and partners. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing work plans, budgets, and reports, as well as organizing meetings and workshops. The role also includes partnership development, resource mobilization, and supporting initiatives related to biodiversity, environmental sciences, and youth engagement in STEM fields. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of UNESCO's science programs and contribute to the overall goals of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Support and Coordination: Assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting of Science Sector activities; prepare work plans and budgets; support coordination with partners; organize meetings and workshops.
Partnership Development: Identify and engage potential partners; develop partnership proposals and maintain databases.
Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences: Support projects related to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability; assist in capacity-building activities.
Youth and Women in Sciences: Promote engagement of youth and women in science; organize events and campaigns.
Knowledge Management and Communication: Collect and disseminate program information; prepare visibility materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (MA or equivalent) in Environmental and Natural Science or Social Science. They should have a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in sciences coordination and program management, with at least 2 years at the regional or international level, preferably in an international organization. Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills are essential, along with excellent coordination and interpersonal abilities.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (MA or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Environmental and Natural Science or Social Science is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the projects and initiatives that the specialist will be involved in.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in the field of sciences coordination and program management. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing programs/projects, with a preference for at least 2 years of experience acquired at a regional or international level, ideally within an international organization.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with various stakeholders and for the preparation of reports and documentation.
Additional Notes: The contract is a Service Contract Level 4, with a duration of 11 months. The position is open to external candidates and is based in Doha, Qatar. The annual remuneration for the post is QAR 285,456, and UNESCO offers benefits including 30 days of annual leave, pension scheme contributions, and health insurance.
