Job Overview: The CBI (Cash-Based Intervention) Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting cash assistance activities within the UNHCR office. This position is supervised by higher-grade CBI or Programme staff, who provide guidance and define work processes. The assistant is responsible for maintaining relationships with other UNHCR units to ensure effective delivery of cash assistance to persons of concern (POC). The role requires collaboration with operational partners and contractors, as well as adherence to UNHCR's regulatory framework, which includes the UN Charter and various policies. The assistant is expected to perform their duties with professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity, contributing to a positive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CBI Assistant's duties include maintaining CBI payment records and monitoring systems to accurately record and reconcile expenditures, balances, payments, and other financial data. The assistant will prepare recurring and special reports as needed, monitor the implementation of UNHCR's cash-based interventions, and manage data related to cash assistance delivery. Responsibilities also include ensuring proper filing and record-keeping, preparing background materials for meetings, assisting in data collection and reporting, and liaising with POC and assistance beneficiaries. The assistant will direct unresolved incidents to their supervisor and support risk management efforts, ensuring that decision-making is informed by risk assessments. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience for the G4 level, along with a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include proficiency in computer skills, particularly MS Office, and knowledge of database applications. Desirable qualifications include familiarity with UNHCR programs, completion of relevant training, and experience in cash-based interventions. Strong skills in MS Excel, MS Access, and SQL are also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration or Political Science. Certifications in these areas are considered essential for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience, which can be gained through previous roles in administrative support, financial management, or similar fields. Experience in cash-based interventions is particularly valuable, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the CBI Assistant.
Languages: For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For national professional jobs, knowledge of the local language is also required. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
