Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to support the monitoring and reporting functions of the United Nations Resident Coordinator system. The internship is expected to last for a duration of 6 months, contingent upon the needs of the office. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Data, Monitoring, and Reporting Officer. The role involves assisting in the collection, review, and consolidation of progress data and narrative inputs from various UN entities to track the results of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). The intern will also assist in coordinating inter-agency groups, organizing meetings, taking notes, tracking actions, and following up on tasks assigned by the supervisor. This position is crucial for supporting the effective implementation of monitoring, reporting, data management, and coordination functions within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for several key tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the collection and review of progress data from UN entities, assisting in the consolidation of narrative inputs to track UNSDCF results, coordinating inter-agency groups such as Results Groups and M&E Groups, organizing UNCT/RC/RCO meetings, taking notes during meetings, tracking actions, and following up on assigned tasks. Additionally, the intern may be required to perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall objectives of monitoring, reporting, data management, and coordination functions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent), or (b) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). A field of study related to social sciences, international development, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or other relevant areas is desirable. Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but a relevant field of study is necessary. Additionally, candidates must have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The fields of study that are particularly relevant include social sciences, international development, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or other related areas. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree program must be provided during the application process.
Experience: While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should have a strong academic background in a field related to the internship. The focus is on candidates who are either in their final year of undergraduate studies or who have completed a higher degree, such as a Master’s or Ph.D. This internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in the UN system and contribute to its objectives.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, knowledge of Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language would be considered an asset. The official languages of the United Nations include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all areas (speak, read, write, and understand), while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
Additional Notes: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning that they will not receive a salary or stipend during their internship. All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Paraguay may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship.
