Job Posting Organization: Enabling Rural Opportunity Network (ERONet) is a women-centred, community-based organization that was established in 2001 in Northern Uganda. The organization focuses on empowering women, girls, youth, and persons with disabilities in rural and post-conflict communities through various initiatives including education, health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), livelihoods, gender equality, and disaster risk reduction. ERONet transitioned from its former name, Agoro Community Development Association (ACDA), to better reflect its expanded geographic scope and mandate. This transition is crucial for maintaining trust and legitimacy within local communities, as many stakeholders are still familiar with the previous name. ERONet aims to ensure continuity and clear communication during this transition to support its organizational development and stakeholder engagement objectives.
Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position at ERONet involves supporting the organization in developing clear and community-appropriate visual communication materials that explain the transition from Agoro Community Development Association (ACDA) to Enabling Rural Opportunity Network (ERONet). The volunteer will be responsible for reviewing background materials provided by ERONet, which include the organizational profile, strategic plan excerpts, draft flyer text, and guidance notes. The primary task will be to design an A4 community information flyer that clearly communicates the name change and the continuity of the organization. The language used in the flyer must be simple and suitable for local leaders and communities. Additionally, the volunteer may create a simplified infographic or poster version for display on notice boards or during community meetings. The role requires remote collaboration with ERONet staff through email and virtual check-ins, with the expectation of sharing draft versions for feedback and incorporating revisions based on that feedback. The final deliverables will include editable files in both PDF format and the source file, such as Canva or InDesign.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review background materials provided by ERONet, including organizational profiles and strategic plans.
Design a primary A4 community information flyer that clearly explains the name change from ACDA to ERONet.
Use simple language that is accessible to local leaders and community members.
Incorporate guidance on appropriate photo placement within the flyer.
Optionally develop a simplified infographic or poster version for community notice boards or meetings.
Collaborate remotely with ERONet staff through email and virtual meetings.
Share draft versions of the materials for feedback and make necessary revisions.
Deliver final editable files in both PDF and source file formats.
Participate in mandatory live meetings and provide periodic updates via email or messaging.
Required Qualifications:
Strong graphic design skills with experience in creating visual communication materials.
Proficiency in design software such as Canva, InDesign, or similar tools.
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a remote setting.
Understanding of community engagement and communication strategies, particularly in rural or post-conflict contexts.
Familiarity with the issues faced by women, girls, youth, and persons with disabilities in Uganda is an advantage.
Educational Background: A background in graphic design, communications, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Relevant coursework or certifications in graphic design or visual communication would be beneficial.
Experience: Previous experience in graphic design, particularly in creating community-focused materials, is essential. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in community development settings is highly desirable. Familiarity with the cultural and social dynamics of rural Uganda will be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication and materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda would be advantageous but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a remote volunteer position, allowing for flexible working hours. The role may require periodic live meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration with ERONet staff. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is expected to align with the timeline for developing the communication materials.
