The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs). The UNIC's mission is to promote public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating the work of the UN to local audiences in local languages. UNIC Mexico City serves as the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The organization is dedicated to engaging local and regional partners and bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. UNICs also lead the communications and advocacy functions of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and Resident Coordination Office (RCO).

Job Overview:
The Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern position is located within the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City, specifically within the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The intern will work under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). This internship is unpaid and requires full-time commitment, with a duration of 3 to 6 months, amounting to 35 hours per week. The intern will support various communications activities, assist with research and media outreach, draft communications products, and engage with a variety of publics. The role also involves updating the UNIC Mexico's website, contributing to multimedia assets for web and social media, and assisting in the coordination of communication activities of UN System agencies in Mexico. The intern will also collaborate with civil society, academia, and NGOs, and help organize events related to UN issues of concern.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including: supporting the communications activities of UNIC Mexico; assisting with research, media outreach, and drafting communications products; engaging in outreach efforts to various publics; producing information and communications products and services; supporting strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean; coordinating communication activities of UN System agencies in Mexico; updating UNIC Mexico's website; contributing to multimedia content for web and social media; drafting and editing written, audiovisual, and digital content in Spanish and other languages; applying programming skills to develop AR or VR products; utilizing Boolean queries and media/social media listening tools; liaising with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic; assisting in event organization; collaborating with public and private sectors on UN issues; promoting UN education and youth participation; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, the applicant's training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should be beneficial to the United Nations during the internship. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent. This educational background is essential for the internship position, as it ensures that the intern has the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the UNIC's work.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required for this internship position. The United Nations encourages applicants who are currently pursuing their education or have recently completed their studies. The focus is on the applicant's academic background and skills that can be applied during the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable, which would enhance the intern's ability to communicate and collaborate within the international context of the United Nations.

All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
