Job Overview: The Communication UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in promoting the project 'Supporting Informal Enterprises’ Transition Towards Sustainable Growth and Formalization in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Regions.' This initiative, funded by the European Union and UNDP, aims to foster enterprise growth within the informal sector and facilitate pathways to formalization. The volunteer will be responsible for creating high-quality communication products that raise awareness of the project’s objectives and enhance its visibility. This includes drafting communication materials, managing social media content, and documenting project activities through various media formats.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication UN Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
Drafting and formatting communication materials such as success stories, social media posts, and press releases on a weekly basis.
Compiling weekly and monthly communication updates and reports to track project visibility and engagement.
Organizing and preparing content for digital platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and X, ensuring timely and relevant updates.
Supporting the documentation of project activities through photo and video, ensuring proper consent and attribution are obtained.
Editing short videos or community stories to enhance storytelling and engagement.
Coordinating with UNDP communication focal points to ensure accurate and timely content generation.
Participating in team meetings and contributing to discussions on communications planning and strategy.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen eye for detail. Familiarity with digital communication platforms and social media management is essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to discussions is also required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity in content creation and an understanding of the informal sector and its challenges.
Educational Background: A background in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication strategies and tools, as well as experience in content creation and management.
Experience: While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the fast-paced environment of international development communication. Experience in volunteer work or internships related to communications will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication materials will be developed in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions involved in the project, would be considered an asset.
