Job Overview:
The Digital Communication Trainee will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and digital presence of DRC in Cameroon and Nigeria. This position is designed to support the development and implementation of DRC's digital communication strategy, ensuring that all content aligns with the organization's global branding standards. The trainee will be responsible for producing high-quality digital materials, managing social media platforms, and engaging with online audiences. This role requires collaboration with program teams to create communication assets for various stakeholders, including private foundations and corporate partners. The trainee will be based at the Coordination Office in Yaoundé and will report to the Programme Development and Quality Manager. This position is particularly important as it aims to position DRC as a key humanitarian and development actor in the region, contributing to the organization's overall mission of supporting displaced individuals and communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Communication Trainee will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the digital communication strategy for DRC Cameroon and Nigeria, ensuring alignment with global branding guidelines.
  • Producing and adapting high-quality digital content, including texts, visuals, photos, videos, and infographics, to showcase DRC's programs and impact stories.
  • Managing and updating DRC's social media platforms, creating dedicated pages for both Cameroon and Nigeria, and engaging with online communities.
  • Tracking and analyzing the performance of digital campaigns and social media metrics, producing regular analytics dashboards, and suggesting improvements for enhanced digital impact.
  • Assisting in the preparation of visibility campaigns, events, and donor-facing communication materials.
  • Coordinating closely with program teams to gather information and multimedia content, ensuring consistency of messages and compliance with DRC standards.
  • Contributing to internal communication tools as requested by the PDQM. The trainee may also be asked to perform additional duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 2 years of experience in communication, marketing, or digital content creation. A university degree in communication, journalism, or a related field is required, or an equivalent professional qualification. A solid understanding of major social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and TikTok is essential. Basic knowledge of digital marketing principles, including SEO, content scheduling, and analytics, is necessary. Candidates should have basic video production skills, proficiency with common digital tools like Canva and Publisher, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow brand guidelines are crucial. A proven interest in international development and the humanitarian field is also required. Fluency in both written and spoken English and French is mandatory.

Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree in communication, journalism, or a similar field. Alternatively, an equivalent professional qualification may be accepted. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to DRC's digital communication efforts.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communication, marketing, or digital content creation. This experience should ideally be within the humanitarian or development sector, providing the candidate with a solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field. Experience with advanced design or editing tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with email marketing tools like Mailchimp or HubSpot CRM would be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and French is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with diverse stakeholders and for producing content that meets the needs of both local and international audiences. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a trainee role with a contract duration of 6 months. It is important to note that DRC cannot offer an expatriate contract to a citizen of the country where the position is based. If a Cameroonian is selected, the position will be nationalized, and the title will change to Digital Communication Officer.
