Job Overview: The intern will be placed within the SDG Cities and Multilevel Governance Unit of UN-Habitat, specifically supporting the Tools & Methodology Development workstream. This role involves developing, refining, and operationalizing tools and frameworks that assist Member States, cities, and local governments in SDG localization, multilevel governance, and planning. The intern will work under the guidance of the Coordinator of the Unit and collaborate with various stakeholders, including tool developers, technical experts, and urban planners. The position is designed to provide hands-on experience in the development of methodologies that support sustainable urbanization and governance, contributing to the overall mission of UN-Habitat.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities include supporting the refinement and testing of SDG Localization tools and methodologies, drafting methodological notes and user guides, consolidating feedback from city teams and experts, conducting desk research on global best practices, preparing content for tool digitalization, and contributing to interface planning and data structuring for online platforms. Additionally, the intern will coordinate with designers and digital teams, organize consultations and validation workshops, assist in developing presentations and briefing materials, and perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. This role is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of UN-Habitat's initiatives in promoting sustainable urban development.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level), or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals, as well as the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Preferred areas of study include Urban/Regional Planning, Public Policy, Development Studies, Data Science, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Project Management, and related fields relevant to SDG localization and governance.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a student in the final year of a Bachelor's degree program or enrolled in a Master's or PhD program. Alternatively, candidates who have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program are also eligible. The preferred fields of study are closely related to urban planning, public policy, development studies, and other disciplines relevant to the work of UN-Habitat and SDG localization.
