  • The project titled 'Supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Spain – Latin America and the Caribbean region' is managed by the UN-Habitat Country Office in Spain, focusing on advancing the implementation of the New Urban Agenda through knowledge exchange, advocacy, and strengthened alliances between Spain and Latin America and the Caribbean, while promoting sustainable urban development in Spain.

Job Overview:
The Intern for Programme Management Support will play a crucial role in assisting the UN-Habitat Country Office in Spain with the delivery of project activities and reporting. The intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, ensuring that outputs are delivered in accordance with project timelines and objectives. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about urban development and sustainability, and who wish to gain practical experience in a dynamic international organization. The intern will be involved in various aspects of project management, including technical support for ongoing projects, organization of expert meetings, and development of communication materials. The role requires a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the team's efforts in promoting sustainable urban practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties and responsibilities will include supporting the implementation and follow-up of technical activities related to ongoing projects, assisting in the organization of Experts Groups Meetings and related seminars, and collaborating with the Communications focal point to develop content, layout, and design for communication materials. The intern will also support local logistics during events, workshops, and seminars, as well as virtual logistics for webinars. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and review of activity reports, documents, and proposals, translating documents and reports, preparing presentations and brochures, conducting research on topics related to the New Urban Agenda and the localization of the 2030 Agenda, and supporting the development and follow-up on agreements with key institutional partners. The intern will participate in team coordination meetings and assist in other activities that support the ongoing work of UN-Habitat Country Office Spain, as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The preferred areas of study for applicants include architecture, urbanism, social sciences, international relations, or related fields. While applicants are not required to have prior professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study aligns closely with the internship position they are applying for. This ensures that the intern can effectively contribute to the projects and tasks assigned during their internship.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written Spanish and English is required for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in graphic design skills is also necessary, along with writing skills. Familiarity with computer software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar applications is considered advantageous for this role.
