Job Overview:
The Biodiversity Knowledge Management and Learning Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) through the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded Biodiversity Enabling Activities: Global Biodiversity Framework - Early Action Support project (EAS). This position involves identifying and applying knowledge management activities that will facilitate effective technical support to countries. The consultant will be responsible for mapping existing knowledge activities, conducting needs assessments, and developing interventions to address key knowledge management needs. The role requires collaboration with various partners and stakeholders to ensure that the knowledge management strategies align with the objectives of the GEF 8 NBSAP Update and the 7th National Reports project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Map existing and planned knowledge activities and materials of key partners such as the CBD Secretariat and NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, identifying opportunities for collaboration under the GEF 8 NBSAP Update and 7th National Report project.
  • Conduct a needs assessment to identify country needs related to knowledge management, utilizing information from recent surveys and assessments, as well as interviews with UNEP-supported country project leads.
  • Develop interventions to address key knowledge management needs based on the mapping and needs assessment findings.
  • Establish methods for UNEP to track and assess the use of existing and new knowledge materials produced under the EAS and NBSAP/7NR projects, providing recommendations and revising tracking tools as necessary.
  • Prepare a comprehensive final report summarizing actions taken, deliverables achieved, and lessons learned during the consultancy period.

Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in knowledge management, social or behavioral sciences, communications, international development, or a related social science field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in developing knowledge management strategies, approaches, and mechanisms is required, along with experience in reviewing and analyzing national, regional, and global knowledge management strategies and plans.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as knowledge management, social or behavioral sciences, communications, or international development. A first-level university degree may be accepted with additional qualifying experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the field of knowledge management, including the development of strategies and interventions. Candidates should have experience in reviewing and analyzing knowledge management strategies and supporting monitoring and reporting activities.

Languages:
Fluency in English (written and oral) is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French (written and oral) is desirable, while knowledge of Portuguese or another UN official language is considered an advantage.
