Job Overview:
The Information Management Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation and maintenance of UNICEF’s data systems and tools. This position is integral to the planning, reporting, and monitoring processes within the organization. The Officer is responsible for cleaning, managing, and visualizing data, which is essential for effective decision-making and operational efficiency. Additionally, the role involves providing capacity development support to UNICEF field teams, partners, and extenders on basic information management tasks, ensuring that all stakeholders are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to utilize data effectively in their work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key functions of the Information Management Officer include managing the UNICEF Afghanistan Information Management System (AIMS), ensuring quality control of data, conducting analysis to inform decision-making, and providing capacity building and technical support to various stakeholders. The Officer will be expected to engage in data cleaning and management, develop visualizations to present data insights, and support the training of field teams in information management practices. The role also involves collaborating with other departments to ensure that data systems are aligned with organizational goals and that reporting requirements are met efficiently.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a University degree (Bachelor’s degree) in information management, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field relevant to Information Management. Formal training in Monitoring, Data, GIS, or Information Management is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong information management skills and technical proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI, spreadsheets, SQL, and/or Python/R. Familiarity with UNICEF’s indicator frameworks and humanitarian reporting tools is essential, along with proven experience in capacity building and mentoring diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as information management, Statistics, or Computer Science is required. Additional formal training in Monitoring, Data, GIS, or Information Management is advantageous and can enhance a candidate's profile for this position.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of professional experience in information management, data management, geographical information systems, assessments, and situation analysis is required. Experience within the UN or NGO sectors is preferred, particularly in contexts that demonstrate strong information management skills. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with data visualization tools and should be comfortable in a professional context that requires technical expertise in data management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in the official UN language of the duty station. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.
