Job Overview:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in the IOM's community-based mental health and psychosocial support program in Ukraine, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This position involves working closely with the Senior MHPSS Associate and other team members to integrate mental health considerations into community activities. The Psychosocial Worker will be responsible for conducting training sessions on Psychological First Aid, stress management, and conflict management, as well as providing individual and group counseling to affected populations. The role also includes developing awareness campaigns and conducting needs assessments to improve access to psychosocial services. The overarching goal is to enhance community resilience and support vulnerable groups in coping with the distress caused by the crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate mental health and psychosocial support into community-based activities.
  • Conduct training sessions on Psychological First Aid, stress management, team building, and conflict management for humanitarian actors and community members.
  • Organize support groups and cultural initiatives to enhance community psychosocial well-being.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to individuals in need.
  • Develop and disseminate awareness messages related to mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Assist in conducting MHPSS needs assessments and data collection to improve service access.
  • Support partnerships with local organizations for effective planning of community activities.
  • Implement MHPSS components of integrated programs supporting veterans and their families.
  • Undertake travel across Ukraine as needed for program implementation. 1
  • Maintain proper documentation and reporting of activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in mental health, social protection, or community-based work is required. Previous experience in humanitarian interventions and working with diverse populations is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support individuals and communities in need of mental health and psychosocial support.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience working in mental health and psychosocial support, particularly in community-based settings. Experience in humanitarian contexts and with vulnerable populations is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of innovative work and the ability to take initiative in local settings, demonstrating adaptability and responsiveness to the needs of the community.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the local population. A working knowledge of English would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate collaboration with international team members and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy position may require frequent travel across Ukraine, and candidates should be prepared for emergency responses as needed. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational incidents. Candidates must provide proof of their own medical insurance before commencing work.
