Job Overview:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in the IOM's community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) program in Ukraine, which has been significantly impacted by the humanitarian crisis. This position is designed to address the increasing mental health needs of the population affected by the war, particularly vulnerable groups. The worker will be part of a psychosocial mobile team (PMT) that provides essential services to communities, ensuring that mental health considerations are integrated into community activities. The role involves conducting training sessions, providing individual and group counseling, and developing awareness campaigns related to mental health. The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will also support the strengthening of social networks and organize various community activities aimed at enhancing psychosocial well-being. This position requires a proactive approach to community engagement and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the population.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate mental health and psychosocial support into community-based activities, adhering to IASC intervention standards.
  • Conduct training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA), stress management, team building, conflict management, and communication skills for humanitarian actors and community members.
  • Organize and facilitate support groups, discussion forums, and cultural initiatives to enhance community psychosocial well-being.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to affected individuals as needed.
  • Develop and disseminate awareness messages and psychoeducation sessions on mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Assist in conducting MHPSS needs assessments and data collection to improve access to services.
  • Support the management of partnerships with local organizations for community-based activities.
  • Implement MHPSS components of integrated programs supporting veterans and their families.
  • Be prepared for travel across Ukraine for emergency situations and community engagement. 1
  • Maintain proper documentation and reporting of activities in coordination with the Senior MHPSS Associate.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in mental health, social protection, or community-based work is required. Previous experience in humanitarian interventions and a track record of innovative local initiatives will be considered advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of mental health and psychosocial support, particularly in a humanitarian context.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support, community-based work, or related humanitarian interventions. Experience in working with diverse populations and in crisis situations is highly valued, as is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and respond to emergencies effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory for this position, given the local context and the population served. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy position may require frequent travel within Ukraine, and candidates should be prepared for this aspect of the role. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for the position. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses but does not cover non-occupational medical insurance.
