Job Overview: The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in addressing the mental health and psychosocial support needs of individuals affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. This position is part of the Psychosocial Mobile Team (PMT) and will focus on delivering community-based mental health services in line with IOM's global standards. The worker will be responsible for providing social support, organizing capacity-building sessions, and promoting cultural and recreational activities to enhance community resilience. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including humanitarian actors and community members, to ensure effective integration of mental health considerations into community activities. The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will also conduct training sessions, provide individual and group counseling, and assist in data collection and assessments to improve access to psychosocial services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate mental health and psychosocial support into community-based activities.
Conduct training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA), stress management, team building, conflict management, and communication skills.
Support the strengthening of social networks and organize support groups and cultural initiatives to enhance community well-being.
Provide individual and group counseling to affected populations as needed.
Develop and disseminate awareness messages and psychoeducation sessions related to mental health.
Assist in conducting MHPSS needs assessments and data collection surveys.
Support partnerships with local implementing partners for community-based activities.
Implement MHPSS components of integrated programs supporting veterans and their families.
Undertake travel across Ukraine as required, especially in emergencies. 1
Maintain proper documentation and reporting of activities in coordination with the Senior MHPSS Associate. 1
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in mental health, social protection activities, or community-based work is required. Previous experience in humanitarian interventions and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to the values of inclusion, integrity, professionalism, and empathy.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the complexities of mental health and psychosocial support, particularly in a humanitarian context. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in mental health will be viewed favorably, as they may bring additional expertise to the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support, community-based work, or related humanitarian interventions. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively in diverse teams and engaging with various stakeholders, including vulnerable populations. Experience in conducting training sessions and facilitating community activities will be advantageous, as will familiarity with the specific challenges faced by communities in crisis situations.
Languages: Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the local population. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate collaboration with international partners and enhance the ability to access resources and training materials. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local context may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position may involve frequent travel across Ukraine, particularly in response to emergencies. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for the role. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational incidents.
