Job Overview: The AI/ML Specialist will play a crucial role in spearheading the implementation and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) initiatives within the WHO European Region. Duties and Responsibilities: The AI/ML Specialist will lead the definition and implementation of AI/ML initiatives, setting project priorities and defining work plans under the guidance of the Manager of the Information Technology Unit. Key responsibilities include:
Leading the implementation of AI/ML initiatives, including setting technical direction and driving data integration initiatives.
Designing and implementing AI prototypes and pilots, iterating towards scalable solutions.
Overseeing the full development cycle of AI projects from data acquisition to deployment and monitoring.
Guiding the development of applications using modern frameworks and ensuring best practices in software engineering.
Developing and managing cloud-based solutions for AI/ML workloads, optimizing resources for performance and cost-effectiveness.
Mentoring a team of AI and software professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
Collaborating with other teams to integrate AI solutions into various operational areas.
Managing large datasets for training and testing AI models, ensuring ongoing performance and accuracy of deployed models.
Establishing quality assurance protocols for AI systems and monitoring application performance post-deployment. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in software engineering, computer science, or a relevant discipline. Essential experience includes at least seven years in software engineering and architecture, particularly in developing cloud-native applications, deploying AI models in the cloud, and managing complex applications and services. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in AI/ML techniques, frameworks, and methodologies, as well as strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript/Node. Proven experience with Azure AI solutions and DevOps principles is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field is essential for this position. Additional certifications in relevant areas such as DevOps, React, or Python are desirable and can enhance a candidate's profile.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in relevant fields, including software engineering, AI/ML deployment, and managing complex applications. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing cloud-native applications and integrating AI solutions into operational frameworks.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English is essential for this role. Intermediate knowledge of additional languages such as French, Russian, or German is desirable and may enhance communication within the organization.
