Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist (Migration and Alternative Care) within the Child Protection Team at UNICEF Malaysia. The role involves collaborating on evidence generation, advocacy, and policy reform related to child protection, particularly for children in migration and alternative care contexts. The volunteer will play a pivotal role in establishing Malaysia's first care leavers network, empowering young individuals who have experienced the alternative care system to influence policy solutions based on their lived experiences. Additionally, the volunteer will conduct research, develop advocacy materials, assist in organizing events, and monitor political developments related to child rights. The position requires a proactive approach to integrating volunteerism into the assignment, promoting community engagement, and contributing to the UN Volunteers program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer include:
  • Collaborating closely with the Child Protection Specialist on evidence generation and advocacy efforts.
  • Leading the establishment and mobilization of Malaysia's first care leavers network for advocacy.
  • Conducting research and developing briefs on child protection issues, including child justice and online protection.
  • Assisting in the organization and documentation of meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Monitoring political developments related to child rights and protection.
  • Creating communications and advocacy materials for various platforms.
  • Assisting in the translation of documents between Bahasa Malaysia and English.
  • Engaging in community activities to promote volunteerism and contribute to UNV initiatives.
  • Documenting lessons learned and best practices in child protection programming.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of child protection issues, particularly in the context of migration and alternative care. They should demonstrate excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information into clear and concise materials. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Candidates should also exhibit professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values. Familiarity with advocacy strategies and experience in community engagement are highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, international relations, child development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection or social work will be considered an asset. Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in child protection, social work, or related fields. Languages:
