The Online Volunteer position is designed for individuals with experience in desk research and a solid understanding of green and circular economies, particularly in relation to industry and value chains. The primary function of this role is to support the review, identification, classification, and analysis of existing and potential new knowledge partners for the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP). The volunteer will work closely with the Industry Innovation Branch of UNEP, which focuses on promoting efficient, clean, and safe industrial production methods while fostering sustainable consumption practices. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of knowledge partnerships that advance green and circular economy initiatives on a global scale.

  • Mapping and integrating information about missing institutional partners, such as UN entities, development banks, and international NGOs, into the GGKP knowledge partners list.
  • Researching and identifying between 40 and 60 potential new technical knowledge partners with expertise in green and circular economy, focusing on credible organizations such as scientific institutes, industry associations, and expert networks.
  • Classifying the existing and potential new partners by type of organization, knowledge partner status, and sectoral focus, using established criteria.
  • Preparing engagement and commitment documents for GGKP knowledge partners, including reviewing and updating Terms of Reference and commitment documents, and developing a PowerPoint presentation that summarizes the GGKP knowledge partners network.

Familiarity with industry practices and value chains is essential. The ability to analyze and categorize information effectively is crucial, as is the capacity to communicate findings clearly and concisely. Proficiency in using Excel for data organization and management is required, along with experience in preparing documents and presentations.

Educational Background:
A background in environmental science, sustainability, economics, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should have a solid academic foundation that supports their understanding of environmental policies and practices, particularly in the context of green and circular economies.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in desk research, particularly in areas related to environmental issues, sustainability, or economic development. Experience working with international organizations or in a volunteer capacity is advantageous, as it demonstrates a commitment to global environmental initiatives and the ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions involved in GGKP initiatives, would be considered a valuable asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and networking within the United Nations system.
