The Senior External Relations Associate will also support outreach activities, events, and campaigns, collaborating with partner organizations to protect people of concern (PoC). The position requires a proactive approach to media relations and advocacy, ensuring coherent messaging that aligns with UNHCR's mission and objectives. The incumbent will report to a senior officer and will be accountable for performing duties in accordance with UNHCR's regulatory framework and core values.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior External Relations Associate include supporting UNHCR's media relations and advocacy efforts, monitoring issues related to asylum seekers and refugees, providing background briefings to local and international media, and assisting senior management in navigating political contexts. The incumbent will organize visits for foreign delegations and media to refugee sites, prepare briefing materials, and facilitate dialogues with donors and embassies. Additionally, the role involves drafting situation reports, press releases, and articles, as well as planning and organizing events to promote UNHCR's activities. The Senior External Relations Associate will also manage budgets, track expenditures, and prepare reports on spending. The position requires proactive outreach to external actors, including social media influencers and the private sector, to build alliances that promote the protection of PoC.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess proven experience with a UN agency or in an international environment, particularly in communications, donor relations, and project management. Knowledge of the UAE's operational context and experience in resource mobilization and donor coordination are essential. Strong analytical skills, the ability to adapt to evolving responsibilities, and proficiency in both English and Arabic (verbal and written) are required. The position also demands excellent communication and coordination skills, as well as the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma with four years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with two years of relevant work experience. Preferred fields of education include Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Journalism, or Communication. Relevant certifications or licenses in these areas are considered essential.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant experience for those with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor's degree or higher. Experience in event management and working in a multinational environment is desirable, as is familiarity with the UN system and humanitarian operations.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with knowledge of the local language (Arabic) as it is the UN working language of the duty station. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, both verbally and in writing. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
