Job Overview:
The Faculty Member position at UNRWA involves teaching and leading instructional activities as outlined in the approved curriculum and faculty by-laws. The incumbent will be responsible for lecturing, leading seminars, conducting individual and group tutorials, and evaluating student performance through writing and correcting examinations and papers. Additionally, the Faculty Member will plan, organize, and supervise practice-teaching activities for students and teacher-trainees enrolled in both pre-service and in-service teacher training programs. The role also includes conducting research activities aimed at promoting knowledge and improving teaching practices within UNRWA educational establishments. The Faculty Member will guide and counsel students and teacher-trainees on educational matters, including study plans and course selection, as well as personal matters related to educational adjustment. Furthermore, the incumbent will organize community service programs to support local Palestinian communities and engage in scholarly activities to enhance academic and professional competencies. Participation in faculty management and curriculum review is also expected, along with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach and lead instructional activities as per the approved curriculum and faculty by-laws, including lecturing, seminars, tutorials, and evaluations.
  • Plan, organize, conduct, and supervise practice-teaching activities for faculty students and teacher-trainees.
  • Conduct research activities to promote knowledge and improve teaching-learning practices.
  • Guide and counsel students and teacher-trainees on educational needs, study plans, and course selection.
  • Provide personal counseling related to educational adjustment, study habits, and peer relations.
  • Organize community service programs in cooperation with faculty students and local organizations.
  • Engage in scholarly activities to enhance educational thought and practices.
  • Participate in faculty management through meetings and committees, and assist in curriculum review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in the relevant subject of specialization from an accredited university or higher learning institution.
  • Evidence of written scholarly work, including publications in recognized journals or books related to the faculty curriculum.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in postsecondary teaching and practice teaching is required.
  • Candidates must confirm residency in the West Bank or Jerusalem and provide ID numbers if applicable.
  • Candidates must disclose any affiliations with organizations that may impact their neutrality or objectivity in performing duties for UNRWA.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in the relevant subject area from an accredited and recognized university or higher learning institution. This advanced degree is essential for the role, as it ensures that the Faculty Member has the necessary expertise and knowledge to effectively teach and guide students in their academic pursuits.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in postsecondary teaching and practice teaching. This experience is crucial as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to effectively engage with students and contribute to their educational development. Candidates should have a strong background in teaching methodologies and practices, as well as experience in supervising and mentoring students.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Arabic is also essential for effective communication within the local context. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory for this role.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, which includes a one-year probation period. There is a possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The monthly basic salary for this position is USD 1,744.30, payable in Jordanian Dinar at the UN monthly exchange rate. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. Employees are entitled to sick leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave as specified. This vacancy is open only to internal candidates, and preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates from underrepresented genders to support gender parity. The agency will not facilitate work permits for candidates without valid documentation.
