Job Overview: The Child and Youth Therapeutic and Wellbeing Practitioner will provide trauma-informed counselling and therapeutic support to children and young people affected by family violence. This newly created role is pivotal in championing a child-rights-based approach, ensuring that the voices, experiences, and strengths of children are central to service delivery. The position is part-time, with a maximum term available until November 2027, and involves working within the Children and Young People Therapeutic Service team in various locations in Western Australia. The practitioner will be responsible for creating age-appropriate therapeutic support, delivering one-to-one and family-based case management, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support the recovery and healing of children and young people.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Child and Youth Therapeutic and Wellbeing Practitioner include:
Supporting children and young people affected by family and domestic violence, including those with diverse and intersecting needs.
Creating and delivering age-appropriate therapeutic support to enhance safety, recovery, and healing.
Providing a mix of one-to-one and family-based case management and therapeutic healing/counselling methods.
Working in partnership with a team that includes Senior Practitioners, Child Development Specialists, Family Support Specialists, and other service providers to support the recovery and healing journey of young people and adults accessing the service.
Understanding the impacts of Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) on children’s development, behavior, and capacity for self-regulation.
Knowledge of developmental stages in children and how these influence needs, behavior, and responses to stress.
Knowledge of trauma in children and young people within the context of FDV, including trauma responses and long-term effects.
Knowledge of protective behaviors and strategies that support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a practitioner with proficiency in therapeutic interventions for children and young people impacted by trauma and family violence. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to reflective and ethical practice, and thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
