Job Overview: The position of Conductor SC2 at WFP involves providing essential transportation services for authorized personnel, ensuring safety and compliance with United Nations regulations. The role requires the driver to maintain the vehicle in optimal condition, keep accurate records of vehicle usage, and assist with basic administrative tasks as needed. The Conductor will be responsible for transporting staff and visitors, managing logistics related to arrivals and departures, and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. This position is crucial for the effective functioning of WFP's operations in El Salvador, where the organization is implementing its Country Strategic Plan (CSP) aimed at enhancing national capacities, improving food systems, and increasing resilience among vulnerable populations. The Conductor will work closely with the vehicle fleet manager and contribute to the overall mission of WFP by ensuring that transportation services are reliable and efficient.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide transportation services for authorized personnel, including translating simple conversations from and to the local language, and delivering and picking up various items/products, following the authorized itinerary and adhering to UN safety regulations to ensure a safe and efficient service.
Greet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other arrival points, providing basic assistance with visa processing and customs formalities to facilitate a smooth and secure arrival at the authorized destination.
Maintain careful records of the vehicle and report daily to the supervisor on its mechanical condition to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption, contributing to accurate accounting and cost efficiency.
Ensure that the assigned vehicle and all related equipment are clean and in good condition, perform timely maintenance tasks, ensure the vehicle is fully equipped with travel authorizations and necessary supplies, and communicate any mechanical issues to the supervisor to guarantee safe and efficient service.
Follow established rules and regulations for deliveries on the ground and/or in case of accidents, and immediately report any apparent issues to the supervisor to request instructions and facilitate informed decision-making on how to proceed.
In addition to driving duties, perform basic office-related tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining order in storage areas as appropriate, including delivering or picking up various items, mail service, and paying office bills to provide administrative support to clients.
Act as the focal point for corporate tools for fleet management (UN BOOKING HUB, VTS, FMS, MY FLEET, FUELLAPP, among others, as designated by the fleet manager).
Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Education: Completion of secondary education cycle. Official driver training and a valid license or certificate to drive the assigned vehicle in accordance with local laws and regulations. Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other motor vehicles, is essential. Defensive driving experience is an asset. Competencies: Knowledge of driving regulations and protocols, courtesy and etiquette as a driver, road safety issues, and vehicle load capacity. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Basic emergency assistance skills and knowledge of first aid methods. Proficiency in using communication devices such as radios, email, and phones. Ability to assess vehicle mechanical suitability and perform minor repairs. Customer-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact. Analytical skills to select routes that minimize travel time or maximize operational efficiency based on specific objectives.
Educational Background: The position requires the completion of secondary education. Additionally, candidates must have undergone official driver training and possess a valid driving license or certificate that complies with local regulations for the vehicle assigned.
Experience: Candidates must have at least two years of professional driving experience, ideally within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. A proven track record of safe driving in various conditions is essential, along with experience in operating different types of vehicles, including vans and other motor vehicles. Defensive driving experience is highly regarded and will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
