Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Marine Conservation Initiatives at ASCOA involves supporting the organization in its strategic plan aimed at managing marine debris along the Cameroon coastline. Volunteers will play a crucial role in grant writing, fundraising strategy, and proposal development to secure funding for ASCOA’s initiatives. This role is vital as ASCOA prepares for an international Marine Conservation Conference scheduled for 2027, which aims to unite experts, youth leaders, and global partners in marine conservation efforts. Volunteers will work remotely and will not be required to directly contact donors or handle funds on behalf of ASCOA, ensuring a focus on content creation and strategic planning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with ASCOA team members to develop grant proposals and fundraising strategies for marine conservation projects.
Conduct research on potential funding sources and opportunities relevant to marine conservation and environmental protection.
Assist in the creation of compelling content for grant applications, reports, and promotional materials.
Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for fundraising campaigns and outreach initiatives.
Provide feedback and revisions on grant proposals and other written materials to enhance clarity and effectiveness.
Stay updated on marine conservation trends and best practices to inform ASCOA’s strategies.
Engage with other volunteers and stakeholders to share insights and collaborate on projects.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in grant writing, fundraising, or related fields.
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
Familiarity with marine conservation issues and environmental protection initiatives.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
Strong research skills to identify funding opportunities and relevant information for proposals.
Educational Background: A background in environmental science, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in grant writing or fundraising will be considered favorably.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or similar roles. Experience working with nonprofit organizations or in marine conservation is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in French is a plus, as it may enhance communication with local stakeholders and partners in Cameroon.
