Job Overview:
The SI/M&E Assistant position is integral to the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, which aims to achieve HIV epidemic control among at-risk populations in Cameroon. The role involves supporting the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities, ensuring data quality, and facilitating continuous quality improvement (CQI) in community HIV services. The assistant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government counterparts and community-based organizations (CBOs), to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and to enhance the effectiveness of HIV-related services. This position requires a proactive approach to data management and analysis, contributing to the overall success of the EpiC project by providing evidence-based insights and recommendations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The SI/M&E Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: supporting the development and updating of M&E tools and methodologies; providing technical support in the creation and dissemination of M&E materials and reports; assisting in training programs for staff and CBOs on data collection and M&E processes; ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for project activities; supporting data collection and management efforts; conducting routine data quality assessments; preparing regular and ad-hoc reports; contributing to data analysis and presentation; coordinating with project teams and stakeholders; and managing project documentation and administrative tasks as assigned. The assistant will also play a key role in identifying project bottlenecks and recommending improvements to enhance service delivery.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an Associate’s degree or its international equivalent in public health, epidemiology, social work, monitoring & evaluation, demography, biostatistics, or other relevant disciplines. They should have 0-2 years of relevant experience in data collection and technical assistance support for projects. Familiarity with health programs in Cameroon, particularly those related to HIV service provision and M&E, is highly desirable. Experience working with at-risk populations and people living with HIV (PLHIV), as well as with U.S. government or PEPFAR-supported programs, is a plus. Proficiency in data analysis and visualization, along with familiarity with tools such as DHIS2, Open Data Kit (ODK), or Kobo Toolbox, is also required.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an Associate’s degree or its equivalent in relevant fields such as public health, epidemiology, social work, or biostatistics. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of monitoring and evaluation in health programs, particularly those focused on HIV prevention and treatment.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 0-2 years of relevant experience. This experience should ideally include providing data collection and technical assistance support to health-related projects. Familiarity with the specific challenges and standards of HIV service provision in Cameroon will be beneficial, as will experience in working with vulnerable populations and in technical capacity building.
Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is preferred for this position. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government officials, and international partners. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly in regions with multiple local languages.
Additional Notes:
This position is based in FHI 360’s offices in Bafoussam, Cameroon, and may require travel throughout the country. The role is full-time and involves collaboration with various partners and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the EpiC project.
