Job Overview: The Adult Education Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing educational services aimed at enhancing the integration of adult refugees and immigrants. This position is primarily responsible for the adaptation, implementation, and monitoring of various adult education programs, including the English Language Training (ELT) program and vocational English Language Training. The coordinator will focus on developing vocational career paths for adult clients, ensuring that the educational programs meet the requirements set by donors. This role involves active collaboration with colleagues and engagement with clients, particularly within the IRC Kansas Resettlement team. The Adult Education Coordinator will also be responsible for collecting qualitative and quantitative data, training program volunteers, and ensuring that all educational services are delivered effectively and efficiently. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that requires a proactive approach to adult education and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Adult Education Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating the delivery of adult education classes, managing class schedules, overseeing enrollment and registration processes, conducting pre- and post-testing, training and supervising volunteers, and ensuring instructional quality. The coordinator will collaborate with colleagues to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess program success and develop replicable models for adult education. Compliance with program standards and grant requirements is essential, as is the development of lesson plans and maintenance of curriculum. The coordinator will gather and record classroom attendance and client completion data as required by grant funders, administer English language assessments to track student progress, and maintain effective communication with peers, students, and partners. Additionally, the coordinator will provide instruction in both in-person and online formats, engage with community organizations for resource development, and participate in grant proposal development to support IRC Kansas initiatives. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Adult Education Coordinator position must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education or a related field. A TESOL certification or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in TESOL instruction within a classroom setting for adult education programs. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of experience in adult education programs, including prior experience supervising staff or volunteers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, as well as possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and those with limited English proficiency. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience with databases and information gathering systems are also necessary. A valid driver’s license and reliable access to an insured vehicle are required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Adult Education Coordinator position includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field. Additionally, candidates must hold a TESOL certification or an equivalent qualification that demonstrates their capability to teach English to speakers of other languages. Additional Notes: The Adult Education Coordinator position is a full-time role, with standard office hours scheduled from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, the position may require occasional weekend and evening work to accommodate the needs of the program and its participants. The compensation for this role ranges from $25.20 to $26.00 per hour, with pay rates determined by various factors such as the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
