Job Overview: The Innovative Finance Intern position is part of UNICEF's Innovative Finance Hub, which is dedicated to developing and implementing innovative financing strategies that align with the organization's Global Innovative Finance for Children (IF4C) Strategy. The interns will support the core team in driving innovative financing strategies, focusing on integrating child rights into investment practices. This role is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in innovative finance, allowing them to contribute to projects that aim to improve essential services for children through sustainable finance solutions. Interns will engage in research, analysis, and internal support functions, gaining insights into how UNICEF collaborates with the private sector and other stakeholders to foster impactful financial solutions for children.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to perform a variety of support functions, including conducting desktop research on sustainable finance frameworks, consolidating databases for contacts and pipeline partners, and providing dedicated research support on child-lens investing. They will assist Project Managers by developing briefing notes and presentations for senior management and key external stakeholders. Additionally, interns will coordinate with the IF Hub Communications Specialist to ensure alignment of core messaging and timely outreach for new products and reports. Overall, interns will support various tasks related to innovative finance as needed, contributing to the diverse range of projects within the IF Hub.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's or undergraduate program, or be recent graduates (within two years of graduation) in fields such as Finance, Business Administration, International Development, or related disciplines. Previous work experience, including internships in finance or sustainable finance, is considered an asset. A demonstrated interest in sustainable finance, along with a solid understanding of financial concepts such as ESG and impact investing, is desirable. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute ideas effectively.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, with candidates expected to be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a university program in Finance, Business Administration, International Development, or a related field. Good academic performance must be demonstrated through recent university records, and candidates must be at least 18 years old.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory, any internships or work in the finance or sustainable finance sectors will be viewed favorably. Candidates should possess a strong interest in sustainable finance and a foundational understanding of financial concepts related to the field.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as mandatory.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time commitment, and selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend unless they are already receiving support from another source. Interns are responsible for providing their own laptop and arranging any necessary visa or immigration requirements. There is no expectation of employment following the internship, and candidates must have proof of medical insurance covering the duration of the internship.
